Originally from Topeka, KS, Benet graduated from Vanderbilt University's Blair School of Music in 2008, and subsequently worked as a music director and pianist on cruise ships all over the world from 2008-2011. He then moved to New York City, where he worked as freelance pianist and music director for The Big Apple Circus, the songwriting duo Lyons and Pakchar, and many others. Since moving to Southern California in 2016, Benet completed his M.F.A. in Music Direction at the University of California, Irvine under the tutelage of Dr. Gary Busy, Dennis Castellano, Robin Buck, Corey Hirsch, and Dr. Stephen Tucker. In June of 2019, Benet finished his coursework early to work with Broadway Choreographer Peggy Hickey on Tuacahn Center for the Arts’ production of A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder in St. George, Utah. Later in 2019, Benet served as the music director for the west coast premier of Grumpy Old Men, The Musical, at the La Mirada theater starring Mark Jacoby, Hal Linden, Ken Page, and Cathy Rigby..
He is thrilled to be part of the Los Angeles theater and music communities where he is starting to make his mark. Recent projects include composing for short films, songwriting commissions, collaborating with his wife Ashley Moniz, and serving as the Music Director for the Ambush Cabaret.
National Broadway tour credits include Cabaret; Associate Music Director (2016), Waitress; 2nd Keyboards/Auxiliary Percussion Sub (2018), and How the Grinch Stole Christmas; 2nd Keyboard (2011).
